Out of Major outbreaks of diseases throughout the world, one of major problems is Healthcare personnel facing violence, And in those By health care personnel doesn't only apply to doctors but to all the health care providers, i.e nurses, ambulance works, hospital staff, pharmacists and so on,

so what is Violence, is it just a person being beaten so badly till he bleeds and gets admitted to hang between the war of life and death, or does it has other shapes as well?

According to WHO, Violence is defined as  The intentional use of power or force, threatened or actual, against oneself , another person or Against a group or community that either results in injury, death, physical harm or deprivation.

Does it have to be physical only ? No, because Violence has its certain types, it can be Verbal or non verbal, but is it really an issue to consider??

According to recent researches 38% of  Doctors all over the world has faced some kind of violence in their career, and not surprisingly according to ICRC research in 2019, almost 75% Doctors in Pakistan have gone through some kind of violence in their career..

If you ask a local Doctor in Pakistan, Their response to verbal Response will be like, Being abused verbally, huh that, that's our regular job as if its in their Job Description "'Har koi aakay be izzat krke chala jata hai'' Sorry to say! but that's how the society treats this Group of community!

So the sorts of Violence has been reported till now are Physical Trauma,Verbal Abusing,Intimidation, Murders, Telephonic Threats, Sexual Abuses, Arson & Vandalism

and List Goes on!
Violence against Doctors is not only localized to Pakistani Subcontinent, but also rather prevalent throughout the world,Earliest studies of violence against Healthcare from USA was taken in 1980s where 57% of emergency care workers have been threatened with a weapon!, whereas in UK 52% Doctors reported some kind of Violence, In Asia Like China, Israel , India and Bangladesh, prevalence rate have been higher than Western countries!

The Most Common one not surprisingly 72% was Verbal Abusing and Cussing, recent cases in Pakistan"Beaten till Hospital Admission" were reported in November 2019 at JPMC karachi and October 2019 at LUMHS Hyderabad.

About The Most Recent Event that took place in Lahore in which Lawyer's Stormed the PIC(Punjab institute of Cardiology) when Doctors were performing their duties performing bypass and passing stents , were abused badly costing 6 patient's lives and leaving many doctors injured!

and what do People expect from Doctors? Just to forget the incident as it Didn't happen even and to perform their duties with such kind of pressure in the back of their mind that they can killed easily while performing their duties, and Instead if doctors become united to Not treat any lawyer instead then still people will blame doctors that for personal problem doctors have become butchers now..

so this Violence, how does it affect Doctors? It does most commonly by the sense of insecurity!
Worse decision Making, Sleepless nights, Ladies avoiding to work in govt Setup in Villages, but most seriously as POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)

What is PTSD ?

It is a Mental Disorder Triggered by Stress, Leading to symptoms like restlessness, isolation signs of depression, sense of insecurity, Numbness, Bad Memories, Hallucinations, Hopelessness, Agitation, Decreased Focus, Fainting and Increased susceptibility to addiction.

How big is Violence an Issue?

In Recent Survey's being conducted Many health care workers mentioned that Workplace Violence is a part of the job and This Violence can be prosecuted they Didn't even know, and Even if they wish to Sue them , they felt resistance from higher authorities and if not then there is a problem of affordability(Healthcare Workers are not only Doctors) in terms of Lawyer's fees and the Social Pressure they are gonna face later even after being victimized themselves!

How to Deal with this?

Its a Two Way process , Many Doctors Do attend sessions about how to Escalate the situation but Not only Doctors need to take the step, But Common People also must!

"One of the most important thing we can do is to encourage our leaders to adopt a culture of safety and keep the work environment Safe"

Doctors Must Keep Themselves polite to patients , If they Don't understand your situation , try to Explain what is happening to them as They are unaware of Institutional policies under which you have to operate! and Never Ever Discriminate Patient according to their Color , Race or Religion!

On the Other Hand , Any hospital's Higher authorities should Impose Triage System(Classifying Patients that what kind of patients should be treated on urgent basis) and Proper Guidance System for the patients and their Attendants so they can Arrive As soon as possible to the speciality They Require, and Providing better security to the Healthcare providers.

And Common People should Be Informed from the very start, at school , college , university and Office levels about how does a hospital operate, what is difference between OPD, Emergency, wards and How Do Doctors operate and Why A Doctor Refers a patient to other Doctor! and How to react when Things get out of hands rather than Beating the Doctor up in anger!

and not only common people but Government should also step forward in such steps! There should be proper lawsuit for Such kind of act as

It was not allowed to harm doctors in the environment of Wars! How come It has become so easy to violate Doctors Diginity so easily!!
