Mask Crisis And Corona Virus Wave in Karachi

It was the day of Thursday, we were appointed in Emergency Department of Karachi JPMC , as If any of you guys saw news on Wednesday that First case of Corona virus has been confirmed in Karachi that had a travel history from IRAN and Was received by Aga khan Hospital. This news created a wave of Fear among the common people but specially The Medical personnel, So In the morning the first thing I asked was

Where are the masks.? And Staff were like Masks :D they are short in supply but luckily I got one for the day.

Ok? I got mine what about my friends? Wollah No Masks were available for them, they went to buy it and also luckily they got the last of pieces and what we all thought was It was only short in our hospital,

So as per routine we were Dealing with patients and our bad luck , it was a real hectic call , but at 4PM when our shifts get rotated, our Other doctors refused to go inside Emergency, why?

Just because of Unavailability of Masks and What is the big news?

A case of Corona Virus has been Suspected here in JPMC and he is in ER(Emergency)

That Wave of Fear Spread like fire, though that was not even a confirm news , Half of the ER got ran away , staff and doctors got panicked and Patient was taken care of and Tested further according to the in duty staff but this news Appeared to be rumour.

So as being a normal Family member, I got concerned about my family members and called my Younger brother to buy some masks for family as they resided in Hyderabad and wollah.. Masks were not found in many shops and if found they were 5x more expensive than a week before!

Not only our city even cities like Nawabshah, Larkana , Sukkur , Padidan and many cities faced the same Mask Crisis!!

What is it? We don't actually know but seems like a Buisness opportunity! Because they are going to get Short and Their demand will lead to increasing rates , and that's the kind of nation we are dealing with!!

This Panic has Got some response from Pakistani Desi totkaz leading to multiple of those like taking onions in morning and not drinking for 15 min etc but no Certain proof has been identified that these remedies do help but one thing is for sure Precautions are much better options than Worrying

1. Wear Masks , even if they are expensive in public places like Courts , Hospitals, Markets etc

2. Maintain Proper Hand washing , at least wash your hands for 25 sec both sides.

3. If you have cold or want to sneeze do it in your elbows.

4. Make sure your eggs and Meat are cooked thoroughly.

5. Avoid unwanted contact with farm animals.

6. Maintain a fair distance between People with Any cold symptoms.

7. People who are Medical Personnel Should take extra precautions in terms of Corona Virus, They Should keep themselves well Hydrated , Covered and Avoid Removing masks until they Leave for home

8. Avoid Un-necessary Touching to eyes or Sensitive areas.

After Hearing The news of this Case being found in Aga khan University Hospital , The first concern of everyone was


 That how many cases or Corona Are expected to be diagnosed the other day?


Luckily Sindh Healthy Authority confirmed that Zero Cases of Corona Virus were diagnosed in Sindh Province of Pakistan and They also mentioned that there is no need  to hit the panic button , they have got situation under control but Still I would Suggest Taking precautions even if you are not in Karachi  (Dawn News)

and even if you get symptoms of common cold, bleeding from nose or any of the Already mentioned symptoms then its not necessary that its Corona, because many of the viral disease present the same way, just make sure you get yourself checked and Get this into your mind that only 1-2% person from the infected person is going to die only!

  • Age 80+ then Death Rate is 14.8%
  • Age 70-79 then Death Rate is 8%
  • Age 60-69 then Death Rate is 3.5%
  • Age 50-59 then Death Rate is 1.3%
  • Age 40-49 then Death Rate is 0.4%
  • Age 30-39 then Death Rate is 0.2%
  • Age 20-29 then Death Rate is 0.2%
  • Age 10-19 then Death Rate is 0.2%
  • Age Less than 10 has no Fatalities
so You can see that If someone is weak and Overall Immune System is weak then he/She has more chances to develop corona Virus , so keep yourself well nourished and hydrated, take precautions and Stay Strong.
